Teaching my son to shake hands properly

At 10 years old he's starting to be in situations where he's meeting adults and shaking hands. I've been working with him on the fundamentals. Firm grip, look them in the eye, say their name back to them, smile. These small things matter. Too many young men today don't know basic courtesy. It's our job to pass it on.

This is solid parenting right here. My son's still working on not being shy about it, but practicing with relatives first really helped him get comfortable.

My oldest went through the same thing last year. Eye contact during the handshake is huge too if you haven't covered that yet. Sets him apart from the kids who look at their shoes the whole time.

That's great you're teaching him this early. My 10-year-old is just starting to realize handshakes matter too. The firm grip thing is key - makes a real difference in how adults react to him.
