Been working with my 8 year old on his handshake. Firm grip, eye contact, clear voice when saying his name. Had him practice with my father last weekend and the old man actually nodded with approval. These little things matter. They show character before a word is even spoken. Anybody else drilling this stuff into their kids?
This matters more than people think. My dad made me practice handshakes growing up and I still remember it. Good firm handshake and eye contact opens so many doors for kids.
Love that you got grandpa involved too. My dad does the same thing with my boys when they visit and they think it's the coolest thing ever.
That's awesome man, those little things really stick with kids. My 8 year old still remembers when I drilled him on this stuff, makes a real difference when he meets people now.
Teaching the fundamentals early is key. Between work and keeping up with schedules, I try to sneak these lessons in whenever I can with my kids.
Eight is the perfect age for this. He'll feel so much more confident at school events and family stuff once it becomes natural. Have you had him practice with extended family yet?

That's awesome. We're working on the same thing with my 8yo right now. The eye contact part is the hardest for him but I keep telling him it shows confidence. You doing this is setting him up for real success.
