Teaching my son to shake hands properly

Had him practice with me this morning. Firm grip, eye contact, actual words spoken not just mumbling. He's in 6th grade and I noticed he was doing that weak fish handshake thing. A man's handshake says something about him. We're gonna work on this because it matters. Also making him write thank you notes by hand. Old school but it counts.

Dad joke incoming: a bad handshake is like a bad first impression, except it lasts as long as your son's social life. Kidding aside, this stuff matters. You're doing it right.

How old is your son? I'm thinking about starting this with mine soon and wondering if there's a good age to really drill it in.

This is gold. My oldest used to do that mumbling thing and I finally got through to him that a handshake is basically a contract. Firm grip, eye contact, confidence. Now he's 12 and shakes hands better than most adults I know.
