My boy is getting to that age where he's noticing things. Last week I caught him slouching, avoiding eye contact when talking to people. Sat him down and we had a real conversation about standing up straight, looking people in the eye, giving a firm handshake. Not in a mean way, just passing on what my dad taught me. Respect starts with carrying yourself with dignity. Anybody else struggle with this?
Good catch early on that stuff. When we're out on the trails or camping, I notice my boys naturally stand taller and make better eye contact just from being outdoors and doing real things together. Might be worth trying that approach too.
The slouching thing is just the beginning. Wait until you have to start talking about deodorant and not leaving wet towels on the floor. Good luck with the posture conversation though.
I think this is one of the most important conversations we have as dads. My oldest is 12 now and we've had several heart-to-hearts about respect, effort, and taking care of himself. Leading by example is everything.
How old is your son? I've found the key is catching these teachable moments naturally instead of making it a big lecture. Slouching is actually a good one because you can tie it to confidence and health.

That's the right move sitting him down about it. I've been working on the same stuff with my oldest, and honestly just modeling good posture and eye contact yourself goes a long way. Kids mirror what they see.
