Teaching respect and honor
Took my boys to visit my grandfather last month and he spent time teaching them about keeping your word, working hard, and treating people right. No lectures, just living examples. He's 82 and still has a firm handshake and says please and thank you to everyone. My oldest asked me later why grandpa matters so much to me and I realized it's because he showed me what it means to live with honor. Now I'm trying to do the same for my kids. These old school values aren't about being rigid, they're about having a backbone and doing right by people. That still matters to me.
That's awesome that your grandfather is doing that. Those kinds of moments stick with kids forever. My kids still talk about lessons their great-grandpa shared years ago.
Did your boys seem genuinely interested or was it more of a polite listen? I always wonder if that generational knowledge transfer actually lands with kids these days.
