Teaching your son to be a man in a world that doesn't value it

Been thinking about this a lot lately. My boy is 7 and he's growing up in a time where being honest, standing your ground, and having real conviction isn't always rewarded. In school they want him to be agreeable, go along with things, not cause problems. But I want him to know when to say no, when to stand up for what's right even if nobody else is doing it, and how to treat people with real respect not just politeness. How do you all handle that tension? How do you teach old school values without making him feel like he's swimming against the current every single day?
