Shook hands with my son's friend last week and the kid barely gripped. No eye contact. Just dead weight in my hand. I'm not one to be overly critical but come on. A man's handshake means something. Been trying to teach my boys that your word and your presence matter. Firm grip, look someone in the eye, let them know you're there. Seems like a lost tradition.
Yeah, I've noticed this with some of my kids' friends too. I think a lot of parents just aren't emphasizing it anymore, but it's such an easy thing to teach. Maybe worth a quick conversation with your son about it?
It's wild how much this little thing has disappeared. I teach my kids to grip firmly but not crush, look the person in the eye, and smile. Sounds simple but you'd be surprised how many don't do it. That kid's parents probably never showed him.
The handshake thing is real. I always make a point to teach my kids about it because so many kids now just kind of wave or don't know what to do. Eye contact matters too. It shows confidence and respect.
This is something I've been thinking about teaching my daughter too. Not just boys need to know how to do this. A firm handshake and looking someone in the eye matters in job interviews, meeting people, all of it.

Man, I feel this. My oldest is starting to notice these things too and I've been trying to teach him without being that guy about it. A firm handshake really does say something about a person, even if kids these days don't always get it yet.
