The importance of a firm handshake

Been coaching my oldest on proper etiquette before he starts high school. We practiced handshakes, eye contact, and how to address adults respectfully. His friends probably think it's weird but in my day these things mattered and I think they still do. Some things shouldn't be forgotten just because we're in a digital age. Am I old fashioned for this?

Good man. I've been coaching youth soccer for years and the number of kids who don't know how to shake hands or look an adult in the eye is wild. Your oldest is going to stand out in the best way at his new school.

High school already? That came fast. The handshake thing is definitely important but also make sure he knows when to put the phone down and actually connect with people face to face.

This is something I wish more parents focused on. My oldest just started middle school and the ones who know how to present themselves really do get noticed by teachers. Keep drilling it.
