The importance of keeping your word to your kids
My old man was unreliable. Said he'd pick me up and didn't show. Said he'd help and forgot. I promised myself I'd be different. Even small things. If I tell my kids I'm taking them somewhere on Saturday, that happens no matter what comes up unless it's truly an emergency. Your word is your honor. Your kids remember every promise you break and every one you keep. Don't be the dad who's too much like the men you didn't want to be like.
Breaking that cycle takes intention. My dad was similar and I've made it a point to actually write things down and set phone reminders if I need to. My kids know they can count on me and that's everything.
