The lost art of a genuine apology

Been thinking about this a lot. I messed up with my son last week. Lost my temper over something stupid. Instead of just brushing past it, I sat down with him, admitted I was wrong, and apologized without making excuses. A real apology. My dad never did that and it cost him. A gentleman owns his mistakes. Shows his kids that real strength is admitting when you've fallen short and trying to do better. He gave me a hug after and said 'thanks dad for telling me the truth.' That's how you lead.

That takes real guts to do that instead of just moving on. My kids have seen me lose it too, and when I actually sat down and owned it like you did, it meant so much more to them than I expected.
