The value of a written thank you note in 2024

Sent handwritten thank you notes to my kids' teachers after the school year ended. Wife said I was overdoing it but to me that's basic respect and honor. Takes five minutes, means everything to someone who deals with chaos all day. My dad taught me this and I'm teaching my kids. Some traditions shouldn't die just because we have text messages.

I started doing this last year and the response from teachers was immediate. They told me at pickup that they still have mine on their desk. That's not old fashioned, that's solid parenting.

Your wife was wrong. Thank you notes hit different now and teachers remember that stuff. Takes five minutes to write one and it means more than a gift card probably.

Hand written notes stand out way more in 2024 because almost nobody does them anymore. Teachers probably got a hundred emails and three cards. Guess which ones they remember?
