Promised my son I'd take him fishing Saturday. Work got crazy and I almost canceled. Then I thought about what my old man used to say about a man's word. So I went. Didn't even catch anything but the look on his face when I showed up at his room at 6am made it worth it. These moments are what they remember. Not the excuses.
This right here. I had something similar happen last month - almost backed out on a camping trip with my boys because work was crazy. But I remembered they weren't asking for much, just time with dad. Kept the promise and no regrets. Kids remember this stuff.

The fact that you caught yourself and followed through is what counts. A lot of guys would've just made an excuse. Your son will remember that day way longer than he'd remember the work thing.
