The value of teaching your son to work with his hands

Been teaching my oldest how to work on cars in the garage and I gotta say, it's been one of the best decisions I've made as a dad. He's learning problem solving, getting confident, understanding how things actually work instead of just pushing buttons on screens. Plus we're building something together. If you haven't started this with your boys yet, seriously consider it. It's old school for a reason.

The fact that he WANTS to spend time with you in the garage is the real win here. My 13-year-old would rather literally anything else so I'm soaking up every minute of this phase.

How old is your oldest? I've been wanting to start teaching my kids this stuff but wasn't sure when they'd actually be able to help rather than just get in the way.

Building a work ethic and actual useful skills at the same time. Not to mention you're teaching him that taking care of your stuff matters. That's something schools definitely aren't covering.

This is gold. My dad taught me to change oil when I was 12 and I still remember standing on the step stool watching him point out the filter. Now I'm doing the same with my son and it's basically the best bonding time we get.
