Not saying women can't work or be independent, that's not the point. But somewhere along the way we stopped talking about the honor in being the protector and provider for your household. There's something deeply satisfying about knowing your family is secure because of your effort. That used to be the baseline expectation for manhood. Just saying.
This conversation matters. We went from 'man provides' to 'everyone's independent' but nobody talks about what happens to family stability in that transition.
I think you're onto something but maybe it's less about the money and more about the commitment to take care of people you love. That looks different now than it did in 1985.
I get what you're saying and I think there's something to it. Being the primary provider gave men a sense of purpose that got lost somewhere. Doesn't mean women shouldn't work, just means we need to figure out what our role is now.
Hard disagree with the framing here. My dad provided everything and was emotionally checked out. My kids would rather have my presence than my paycheck.

My wife makes more than me and honestly it's fine. But yeah I do feel like the expectation to be the one steering the ship matters to me. It's about responsibility not control.
