Thinking about starting a chore system where my kids can actually earn cash instead of just getting an allowance. Want them to understand the connection between work and reward, but not sure what age makes sense to start. Any of you guys done this? What worked for your family?
We do a hybrid where some chores are 'just part of living here' (cleaning your room, dishes) and then extra stuff earns money. Trying to teach that basic responsibility isn't transactional but hustle gets rewarded.
Started mine at 6 with simple stuff like feeding the dog or setting the table. Gave him a dollar per chore. Honestly it worked better than I expected because he actually cared about completing things for the money.
Skip the app stuff and just use a whiteboard with checkmarks or something. Kids respond better to visual progress and it's way less complicated to manage. Our kid loves putting his sticker on the chart.

5 years old, very basic stuff. Our son got really into it because he could actually buy small toys he wanted instead of just asking. The financial motivation is way more powerful than 'good job cleaning up.'
