What does honor mean in 2024?
Been thinking a lot about what my grandfather taught me about being a man of honor. He served, built a business, paid his debts, treated women with respect, and never made excuses. Today that stuff gets mocked or called toxic. But I don't think wanting to be strong, responsible, and principled is wrong. I'm trying to pass this on to my boys but the world is telling them something totally different. How do you hold onto these values without being defensive about it or pushing your kids away?
Service, integrity, keeping your word. Those things don't change. But I'd add that teaching my kids what those mean through my actions matters more than just telling them. That's the modern version I think.
