Made a deal with a contractor last week, shook on it, and he backed out when someone offered him more money. No contract, just agreed to help me with a remodel. My grandfather would've never done that. I'm frustrated but also wondering if I'm just old school expecting people to have integrity. Am I wrong to feel like something's broken here or is this just how things are now?
This is why I always get everything in writing now, even with friends. It sucks because it feels like you don't trust them, but it protects both sides. The contractor knew what he was doing was wrong, which is the real problem.

I think about this stuff a lot especially raising kids. We're trying to teach them to keep their word but the whole world around them doesn't work that way anymore. It's backwards.
