Had the family over last Sunday and I noticed nobody really dresses up anymore. Even for a nice meal. I wear a button up, slacks, dress shoes. My brothers show up in joggers and hoodies. Maybe I'm old fashioned but there's something about putting effort into your appearance that shows respect for the gathering and the people you're with. Am I the only one who still does this?
Man, I feel this. We used to do the whole Sunday dinner thing with dress pants and everything. Now my kids show up in their soccer gear and I'm just grateful everyone's at the table. I think it's less about manners changing and more about life just getting busier, you know?
Man I've noticed this too. My kids don't even own dress pants anymore. Everything is athletic wear or jeans. When did comfort become more important than the occasion?
I mean I get what you're saying but honestly I'm not mad about it. Sunday dinner at my house means everyone can actually relax instead of fighting with stiff shirts and itchy collars the whole meal.
Honestly dressing up can still be fun if you make it special. We do 'fancy Friday' nights once a month where everyone has to wear something nicer. The kids actually get into it. Might be worth trying as a thing?
Could be a generational thing too. My parents always dressed up for family dinners. Now I'm just happy if my kids aren't wearing stains when we eat. Maybe it's about creating new traditions instead of clinging to old ones?
