When did we stop dressing up to go out?

Went to dinner last night in slacks and a button up like a normal human. Looked around and saw grown men in sweatpants and hoodies. What happened? I get comfort but there's something about putting effort into your appearance that shows respect to the people around you and to yourself. My grandfather wore a hat and tie to the grocery store. Now that's probably considered overdressed. Not saying I want to go back to that extreme but we've gone way too far the other direction. Thoughts?

Co-parenting means I actually try to look put together when I pick up the kids now. Makes a difference in how I feel about myself too.

YES. I wore actual pants with a button up to dinner last week and felt like I was overdressed. When did everyone decide sweatpants are acceptable everywhere?

Man, I feel this. Between coach pitch and just running around with my kid, I'm in athletic wear 90% of the time now. But you're right, there's something about putting in the effort that just hits different.

We're always hiking or exploring out here in Portland, so I've definitely gone more casual. That said, nothing wrong with actually dressing nice for dinner. It's about showing respect for the occasion and your partner.
