When Your Kid Disrespects the Mother

Had to have a serious talk with my oldest today. He rolled his eyes at his mother when she asked him to take out the trash. I don't care if he's 16 and thinks he's grown, that kind of disrespect toward the woman who raised him won't fly in my house. Made him apologize without excuses and he's going to write her a letter explaining why disrespecting her is disrespecting the whole family. I know I'm not winning any cool dad awards but my boys are going to learn that honor and respect start at home with how you treat your wife and mother. Standing firm on this one.

This is one of the hard parenting calls but you gotta make it. Respect for his mom has to be non negotiable. The fact that you addressed it right away shows him you mean it.

Had to have that exact same conversation last month. Eye rolling at mom is a big one. Let him know that disrespect towards her is disrespect towards both of you and that it stops. He's getting older so it's the perfect time to reinforce that she's not his peer.

How old is he? Just curious because the eye roll age is real and different kids need different approaches. My oldest went through that phase around 12 and a serious talk about respecting his mom actually landed better than I expected.
