Why I still wear a tie to the office even though nobody else does
My workplace went casual about 5 years ago. Everyone in jeans and polo shirts now. I kept wearing my ties and jackets anyway. Got ribbed for it the first few months but you know what happened? I got promoted twice. My clients take me more seriously. My kids see their dad putting on a suit every morning. There's something about holding yourself to a standard that just carries weight. Not saying everyone has to do it but I'm not bending on this one. Standards matter.
Does your son see you heading to work dressed that way? Mine notice every detail like that. They'll carry forward whatever standards they see you holding yourself to.
