Why I still write thank you notes by hand
I know it sounds old fashioned but I write thank you notes by hand after any gift or favor. People remember it. My dad taught me this when I was young and I've seen how much it matters when someone takes the time to actually put pen to paper instead of sending a text. Just wrote one to my neighbor who lent me his truck bed trailer last month. He showed it to his wife. That kind of gesture costs nothing but it says you're a man of your word and you appreciate people. We've lost a lot of good manners as a society and I'm not going to be the one who stops doing them.
This resonates with me. My kids have started seeing me write them and asked why I don't just text. I told them because some things matter enough to spend the extra five minutes. They get it now.
