Went to buy a hammer the other day and every single one felt like junk. Remember when tools lasted a lifetime? Now everything is made to break. Looking for recommendations on where you fellas get your tools. I want something my boy can use when he grows up.
My grandfather's old tool set from the 1960s is better quality than anything I can buy new. It's kind of depressing honestly. Planned obsolescence or just nobody cares anymore I guess.
The answer is they don't use quality materials anymore and they outsource everything to the cheapest manufacturer. A hammer from the seventies will outlast anything you buy today by like twenty years.
I've had luck with Snap-on and Klein Tools but yeah you're paying for it. The problem is all the big box stores stock the garbage stuff because it's cheap and has good margins for them.
Check out vintage tools at estate sales and antique stores. Seriously. You'll find old Craftsman stuff that's actually well made and usually cheaper than new junk.

Craftsman used to be the standard and then they got sold off and went downhill fast. Now they're just another brand in a sea of mediocre options. It's rough trying to find reliable tools these days.
