Wife says I'm too hard on the kids about manners

Okay so am I crazy for expecting my kids to look people in the eye when they shake hands? To say please and thank you without being reminded? To sit up straight at the dinner table? My wife thinks I'm being too rigid but I genuinely believe these things matter. They're not just rules, they're about respect and discipline. Tell me I'm not insane here.
