Spent last weekend setting up a little woodworking space and made a birdhouse with my 8yo. First time in like 5 years I've done something just for me (well, with my kid but not parenting-related?). Felt really good actually. Nothing fancy but it reminded me I used to do things that made me feel like myself, not just like "dad." Anyone else have hobbies? Feeling like I need more of this.
How did you get started with woodworking? Been thinking about something similar but don't know where to begin without making it complicated.
The mental health benefits of having a hobby space are underrated. Plus your 8yo gets to watch dad doing something he's genuinely into. That matters more than you probably realize.
Woodworking with your kid is next level. I tried something similar with my oldest and now he's actually interested in helping. It's become our thing.
Love this. Being present for your own mental health makes you a better dad anyway. Your kid sees that directly when you're building something with purpose.
