Feel like I'm failing my kids because of my depression
Been a dad for 4 years and the last year has been brutal. Some days I can barely get out of bed and my kids are watching movies all day while I lay there. My 6 year old asked me why I'm always sad and I didn't know what to say. I know logically this is the illness talking but I feel like I'm ruining them. Started seeing someone about this but the guilt is almost worse than the depression itself. Anyone else struggle with this?
You're describing something real and serious. Getting out of bed on a hard day IS parenting. But please talk to someone - a doctor, therapist, or your wife about what you're going through. You don't have to white-knuckle through this alone.
