3 week old won't sleep unless being held

Our son will only sleep if one of us is holding him. The second we put him down in the bassinet he loses it. I'm exhausted and my arms are dead. Is this normal? When does this phase end? My wife is stressed and I'm trying to be supportive but I'm running on like 2 hours of sleep a night here.

We had this exact phase with our first. It's brutal, I know, but it does pass. Try contact naps in shifts with your partner so you can actually rest. You're doing great even though it doesn't feel like it.

Man, that newborn stage is rough. The contact napping phase won't last forever though. Hang in there and try to get whatever rest you can while it happens.

Three weeks in and you're already thinking clearly enough to ask the question, that's a win. My boy did this too and honestly some days I just held him because it was the only thing that worked.
