5-month-old suddenly fighting bedtime

For the first 4 months, bedtime was easy. Bath, bottle, bed. Now he fights sleep like crazy - arching his back, crying, won't settle. Pediatrician said it could be the 4-month sleep regression. Is that actually real or is that just something people say? How long does it last? This is exhausting.
