Anyone else getting emotional over milestones?

My daughter smiled at me on purpose yesterday and I actually got tears in my eyes. I know it sounds cheesy but something just hit different. She's 8 weeks old and I feel like I'm finally bonding with her instead of just being scared I'll break her all the time. The first month I felt like a useless bystander while my wife did everything but now I'm reading to her, we have our own little routines. Is this normal or am I being a sap?
