Baby acne or something worse?

My 3 week old has these red bumpy spots all over his face and I'm freaking out. Pediatrician said it's just baby acne and totally normal but it looks awful. Is he uncomfortable? Should I be doing anything? Also why does no one mention this when they talk about newborns?
