Bonding with baby feels awkward

My son is 5 weeks old and I feel like my wife has this instant connection with him but I'm just kind of here holding this tiny human wondering what I'm supposed to do. I try to talk to him and it feels weird. I'm not as natural at soothing him when he cries. Anyone else feel like this at first? Will I get better at this or am I just not a natural parent?

Dude, I'm right there with you at 5 weeks. My wife seems like she just knows what he needs while I'm over here like... is he hungry or just mad? Totally normal though, it clicks eventually. You're already bonding just by being present.

That awkward feeling passes, man. I remember thinking the same thing when my first was that tiny. Give it a few more weeks and you'll find your groove with him. Every dad gets there at their own pace.
