My 3-week-old is going through formula way faster than the pediatrician said. We're doing like 10-12 oz every 2-3 hours instead of the 2-3 oz every 3 hours they recommended. Wife thinks something's wrong but baby seems happy and is having wet diapers. Is he just eating more than average or should I call the doctor?
Pediatricians give guidelines but every baby is different. If baby seems content and gaining weight you're fine. The sleep deprivation makes it hard to trust yourself but you got this.
10-12 bottles a day at 3 weeks is actually not crazy if baby is hungry. Growth spurts hit fast at that age. Just make sure you're reading hunger cues right and not substituting food for comfort.
This is totally normal honestly. The first month is just survival mode. You're doing great just by asking if you're doing it right.
My daughter was like this and it turns out she had a tongue tie that made it hard to nurse efficiently. Might be worth getting baby checked out just to rule stuff like that out.
The 2am feedings get easier once you set up a station by your bed. Bottle warmer, clean bottles, everything within arm's reach so you don't fully wake up. Changes the game for your sleep.

Call your pediatrician's office back. Sometimes the guidance is based on average babies and yours might just be bigger or hungrier. They won't think you're annoying for asking again.
