Bottle feeding vs breastfeeding debate with the wife

We had our baby 5 days ago and my wife wants to exclusively breastfeed. I get it but she's been in so much pain and I feel like supplementing with formula would help her. She gets upset whenever I bring it up like I'm not supporting her. How do we navigate this? Any dads been through the same thing?
