Bottle feeding vs breastfeeding - feeling judged by family

My wife wanted to try breastfeeding but it's been really painful and the supply is low so we're supplementing with formula and honestly probably going mostly to bottles. Her mom keeps making comments about how it's the best for the baby and implying she's not trying hard enough. My wife is already feeling guilty enough without the judgment. I want to shut it down but don't want to start drama. How do I handle this without being a jerk to her mom? My baby is fed and happy, that's what matters right?

My wife had the same issue with our first. Low supply plus the pain was just too much. We switched to formula and everyone was happier. Your job is to support her and make sure baby gets fed. You're nailing it.

Supplementing is completely normal and honestly smart if supply is an issue. Your kid will be healthy and your wife won't be in pain. That's a win.

You're doing the right thing by being supportive of whatever works best for your family. Fed is best, and honestly the judgment from family is more about them than you two.

The family members judging probably never had to deal with cracked nipples and low supply. Tell them your wife's health and your baby's nutrition matter more than their opinions.
