Bottle feeding vs breastfeeding question

My wife wants to pump so I can do some of the night feedings and give her a break. She's exhausted and honestly I want to help more. But we're worried it might mess with her supply or the baby will prefer the bottle. Anyone have experience with this transition? We're open to whatever works but want to make sure we're not messing things up.
