Bottle feeding vs breastfeeding - what's your honest take?

My wife wants to exclusively breastfeed if possible but also wants to maintain her sanity and have breaks. We're thinking combination feeding. But I keep seeing stuff online about nipple confusion and supply issues, then other parents saying those are myths. This is our first and we're trying to make a decision before baby arrives in 6 weeks. What's the real deal? Anyone successfully do combo feeding without weird issues? Or is someone always disappointed with the choice?
