Bottlefeeding vs breastfeeding debate is tearing us apart

My wife really wants to breastfeed but she's struggling with latching and its been causing her a lot of pain. I suggested maybe trying formula or pumping instead but she got upset and said I dont understand how important this is to her. I get it but I also dont want to see her suffering every 2 hours. How did you guys navigate this? Any advice?
