Breast feeding seems to be going wrong

My wife has been struggling with breastfeeding and the lactation consultant said her latch is off but baby is feeding. Our pediatrician said he's gaining weight fine but my wife is in pain every time. I feel helpless because there's nothing I can really do except watch her hurt. Has anyone's partner gone through this? Does it get easier or should we consider formula? I just want to help but I don't know how.

Latch issues are tough. My wife went through something similar and the lactation consultant was a lifesaver. Have you tried different positions or is it just painful for her? There's also nipple shields that can help while they work on the latch.

Breastfeeding is harder than anyone tells you it'll be. Latch problems are fixable but it takes patience and usually multiple visits with someone who knows what they're doing. Make sure your wife knows this is temporary and gets support from that consultant.

Those first weeks are brutal. Latch issues usually clear up with practice and guidance. Your job right now is to be her support system and maybe look into renting a hospital grade pump if you need to give her a break. It gets better.
