Breastfeeding journey has been rough

My wife is struggling hard with nursing. Baby is latching wrong, her nipples are bleeding, and she's been crying a lot. The lactation consultant we saw wasn't super helpful. I feel helpless because there's not much I can do to fix it. She wants to keep trying but I'm worried about her mental health. Anyone been through this? Is it worth pushing through or is there no shame in switching to formula?
