Discussion: How much should new dads actually be involved in diaper brand/formula choices?

Had a weird moment last night where I suggested we try a different diaper brand because the current ones give my son (2 months) a rash but my wife took it as criticism of her choices? That wasn't the intent at all - I was just problem-solving because he's uncomfortable.

Now I'm wondering if I'm overstepping by having opinions on this stuff. Obviously her body is still recovering and she's doing most of the care work, but like... it's also my kid and his comfort matters to me? What's the right dynamic here? How do you guys navigate who makes what decisions?

My wife was shocked when I had strong opinions about which bottles didn't cause gas. Turns out when you're the one burping the baby for an hour you get invested in the equipment lol. So yeah definitely speak up.

Honestly I think dads should absolutely have input on diaper brands. You're changing them as much as anyone else. If something works better or causes less diaper blowouts, that's worth discussing. It's not gatekeeping.

I've learned there's a difference between suggesting an alternative and being controlling about it. Bring data if you have it (like price, environmental stuff, baby's reaction) and frame it as a team problem to solve together.

I think the key is whether you're actually doing the changes. If you're splitting that work 50/50 you absolutely get a vote. If you're changing two diapers a week then maybe let it go.

The formula stuff is bigger though because you might be the one up at 2am making bottles. You should definitely have a say if you're doing night feeds. Different if you're not involved in that part.

What diaper brand were you thinking? My son had a reaction to Pampers but did fine with Mama Bear. Sometimes it's actually worth experimenting even if it seems petty.
