My wife is 2 weeks postpartum and her nipples are absolutely wrecked. She's in pain every time our daughter latches and it's heartbreaking to watch. Everyone keeps saying 'it'll get better!' but nobody explains the actual timeline. Is it weeks? Months? She's determined to keep going but I'm worried about how much longer she can handle the pain. Anyone have real experience with this?

My partner pushed through the pain for about 3 months and then one day it just wasn't painful anymore. Two weeks in is still super early. The nipples toughen up once they get past those first few weeks.

This is the worst part honestly. My wife said once she got past week 4 it was completely different. Hydrogel pads kept her sane until then.

Get a lactation consultant if you haven't already. My wife had a similar issue and it turned out the baby's latch needed adjustment. Fixed the problem way faster than just waiting it out.

Yeah the first month was absolutely brutal for my wife. She stuck it out and by week 6 things had improved dramatically. Lanolin and warm compresses were her lifesavers in the meantime.

It does get easier but it takes longer than 2 weeks. Tell your wife it's totally normal and the pain should start improving around week 4 or 5. She might need to see a lactation consultant if it's really severe though.
