Looking at car seats for our April baby and seeing the Graco Snugride SnugLock is like $200 vs some others at $400+. The reviews are mixed - some people swear by it, others say the base is flimsy. We're in the Denver area if that matters for climate concerns. Worth the savings or should we splurge?

don't get seduced by price difference. we went cheap on carseat with kid #1 and it was annoying to latch. went mid-range with #2 and the difference in qol was real. snugride is probably fine but if you can stretch to $300-ish there might be better options at that price point

Don't cheap out on the carseat itself but you DON'T need the fancy base. The Snugride actually has a really solid track record. I'd skip it if the base worries you though - peace of mind is worth something. You'll be looking at that thing 100 times a day for the first year.
The Snugride is legit but yeah the base can feel a little wobbly if you're comparing it side-by-side with the $400 seats. That said - it passes all safety tests and honestly my kid is fine. The $200 difference isn't worth the anxiety if the cheaper one passes crash tests, which it does.
went the snugride route and had the same concern about the base. after looking at actual crash test data i realized the flimsy feeling is just bc it's lighter, not bc it's less safe. install it properly and you're good. mixed reviews are probably bc people compare it to luxury cars lol
the mixed reviews on snugride are wild bc half of them seem to be about the car base locking mechanism being finicky and the other half are people saying it's the best thing ever. maybe visit buybuyBaby if you have one near you and actually clip one in a car to test?

read the reviews that mention the BASE specifically, not just the seat. that's where the complaints seem to cluster. some people said theirs cracked after like 6 months but could've been install issue. for april baby you prob won't know until you're deep in it
lmao 'flimsy' is such a dad thing to say about car seats. like we're all paranoid engineers now. the snugride meets safety standards same as the expensive ones - you're basically paying for luxury with the others. $200 saved is nothing to sneeze at with a baby coming
