Feeding issues - baby not latching well

My wife is really struggling with breastfeeding. Our 2 week old doesn't seem to be latching correctly and she's in pain. We have a lactation consultant appointment next week but in the meantime what can we do? Should we try bottle feeding with pumped milk? I hate seeing my wife hurt and feel useless trying to help. Any advice?
