First night home and I haven't slept at all

We got home from the hospital yesterday and my son will not stop crying. My wife is exhausted and I told her I'd take the night shift but honestly I'm terrified. Every noise he makes I think something is wrong. He's eating and his diaper is clean but he just cries for like 2 hours then sleeps for 20 minutes. Is this normal? When does it get easier? Also why didn't anyone tell me about the disgusting black poop?

Dude, you're in the thick of it right now. That first night is brutal and feels impossible, but you're doing exactly what you need to do by letting your wife rest. The crying is normal even though it sounds like the end of the world. Hang in there, you've got this.

First night home is rough. Real talk though, that baby isn't dying even when it sounds like it might be. Take turns with your wife even if she says it's fine, swap out every hour or two so you both get some rest. You can't pour from an empty cup.
