First night home with newborn - I'm terrified

We got home from the hospital this afternoon and my son is sleeping in the bassinet next to our bed. I keep checking to make sure he's breathing. My wife is exhausted and I'm too wired to sleep. I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. Is it normal to be this anxious or am I losing it? Everyone said the hardest part is in the hospital but honestly this feels harder.

That terror is 100% normal. You've got this though. First piece of advice - sleep when the baby sleeps is real. Second piece - don't try to be perfect. Babies don't need perfect, they need fed, changed, and held.
Definitely terrifying at first but honestly those early nights are kind of magical too if you let yourself sit with it. Call whoever you need to call if you get really freaked - no shame in reaching out.
