First poop after birth was insane

Holy crap guys (pun intended). Our daughter finally pooped today after 2 days and it looked like tar. The nurse said it's normal meconium but I was genuinely concerned we broke something. The color, the consistency, everything about it seemed wrong. Anyway wanted to give you all a heads up that your kid will poop something that looks like it came from another planet and that's totally fine.

Yeah the first poop after birth is always an event. Meconium is gnarly looking but completely normal. Give it a day or two and you'll miss how contained it was because regular baby poop is everywhere.

Meconium is wild. That tar-like stuff is exactly what it's supposed to be so actually a good sign. Within a few days you'll get the green poop transition phase and then into normal baby poop territory. It's one of those things nobody warns you about.

Welcome to fatherhood where poop becomes a major topic of discussion. The fact that she finally went is honestly a relief because you want to make sure everything is working properly. Looks weird but you're doing great.
