First smile today and I get why people have more kids

My daughter is almost 8 weeks old and I've been waking up every 2 hours feeling like a zombie. But this morning she actually smiled at me. Not a gas smile, a real actual smile when she saw my face. I literally just sat there like an idiot grinning back at her for 10 minutes. My wife caught me on my phone trying to video it but didn't get it. Worth the sleep deprivation? Maybe. Ask me again at 3am tonight.

That first real smile is life changing. I remember when my daughter did that and I was just standing there grinning like an idiot. Suddenly the sleep deprivation doesn't feel as bad. Almost.

Eight weeks and already understanding why people have more kids - yeah that tracks. They get you with that smile and suddenly you forget how bad the sleepless nights were. Then you wake up one day and realize you're thinking about baby number two. It's a trap but a good one.

First intentional smiles hit different. I was a zombie for the first 3 months but moments like that kept me going. Hang in there, the sleep will eventually come and the baby will stay smiling.

That's the hook right there. One real smile and suddenly the zombie haze starts to feel worth it. My daughter is 12 weeks now and I'm actually functioning on something closer to normal sleep, thank god.

I get why people have more kids too but I also remember why they only have two at a time. Those first 8 weeks are insane. Congrats on the smile though, that's the moment that makes it worth it.

8 weeks is still so early but you're right at the point where their personality starts to show through and it changes everything. Stay strong through these weeks, it's the hardest part.
