First time changing a blowout diaper - tips?

This just happened and I need to know if I handled it right. Baby had what I can only describe as a nuclear explosion while wearing a onesie. Poop was literally everywhere - on the outfit, the mattress, his back. I panicked and called my wife who just laughed at me. Do you guys just toss the outfit or try to save it? And is there a technique to getting them out of those situations without making it worse? Asking for a friend.

Wet wipes, change pad that can be wiped down, and maybe just accept that some outfits are done for. You handled it right if your baby is clean and you didn't panic.
