First time out in public with the baby and it was a disaster

Took my 8 week old to Target for like 20 minutes. He started screaming in the checkout line and I just stood there like an idiot while everyone stared at us. My wife was with me but I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. He wasn't hungry, wasn't dirty, just screaming. We left and he fell asleep in the car 2 minutes later. My confidence is shot. Does this get easier or is every public outing gonna feel like a test I'm failing?

Don't sweat it. Everyone at Target has seen a baby meltdown a million times. You made it out and back, that's a success at 8 weeks.

Man, that's rough but totally normal. I remember taking my oldest to the grocery store around that age and he lost it in the cereal aisle. Everyone's been there, trust me. You're doing better than you think.

Twenty minutes is actually a win at 8 weeks. My kids screamed everywhere when they were that little and I just learned to embrace the chaos. Nobody's judging you as hard as you're judging yourself.

You stood there and handled it. That's what matters. As someone who deals with a lot of parents at Little League events, I can tell you the calmest ones are the ones who don't panic when their kid melts down.

8 weeks is so early man. You did the right thing getting out even if it was rough. It gets easier and you'll feel more comfortable the next time.

The screaming in checkout is a rite of passage. First time out is always rough but it gets way less stressful once they're a few months older.
