Help my newborn hates sleep

First time dad here, baby is 3 weeks old and will NOT sleep. Literally only sleeps when someone is holding him. I'm reading all these things about safe sleep and independent sleeping but my kid screams the second we put him down. Are we doing something wrong or is this normal? Wife and I are running on fumes. Also is it true you're not supposed to let them sleep more than 3-4 hours at night or is that old advice?

The holding thing is totally normal at 3 weeks, don't stress about it yet. Safe sleep guidelines are important but also give yourself permission to just hold your baby sometimes. You're not messing anything up.

Man, those first few weeks are brutal. My son did the same thing - contact naps only. It gets better around 6-8 weeks when they start to figure out their own sleep rhythm. You're doing great just surviving right now.
